Aerosplit Classifier

The Aerosplit classifier is a high-efficiency, air-swept, dynamic classifier suitable for the processing of dry particulate materials with a cut point typically in the range from 5 to 150 microns and is capable of handling quantities from a few kilograms per hour up to 10 tons per hour.

Details

This Aerosplit classifier can operate as either a stand-alone system with a feeder, fan and product collection equipment or within a conventional, closed-circuit milling system.

British Rema offers design and technical support to assist you with your particular project.

Features & benefits and operating principles

  • Available in a range of sizes with capacities from a few kilograms up to 10 tons/hour
  • Offers excellent sharpness of cut
  • Precise on-stream control of the cut point is achieved by variation of the rotor speed, airflow balance and feed rate
  • Product controllability by adjustment of fan speed and damper valve
  • Low power consumption and system resistance
  • Design configuration ensures feed material immediately enters the classifying vortex unimpeded by the re-circulating coarse fraction giving superior performance
  • Commonality of spare parts – (e.g. classifier head can be used with the Aerojet opposed jet mill)

  • Entrained feed material enters through a primary air duct
  • Particles are introduced into a forced vortex generated within the machine by a rotor
  • Particles are classified within the vortex as a result of the interaction between centripetal and air drag forces
  • The cut point is determined by controlling the rotor speed (and air flow)
  • Particles below cut size pass through the rotor and exit with the entraining air duct for collection in the external system. Coarse particles above the cut point migrate to the casing wall and descend through the discharge cone to the outlet

FAQs

The main recognised application for Air Classifiers is in the changing of the particle size distribution of a powder by the removal of a fines or coarse fraction. The reason for removal of a certain fraction is normally to enhance the performance of a powder.

How reliable is the Aerosplit?

The Aerosplit classifier has tried and tested mechanical reliability borne out by proof of concept and process parameters at our test facility in Chesterfield, UK. Once commissioned this machine offers consistently repeatable product size distributions and is simple to operate, clean and maintain.

How much throughput can I achieve?

Based on testing the classification process using the machines at our own facility and dependent on the physical properties of the product you require such as; particle size and shape, surface morphology, density, porosity, and flow properties, we can select the appropriate size and specification of Aerosplit to meet your requirements.

Can I achieve higher than my current product yield?

In industrial applications there are numerous reasons for the classification of a powder such as the control of surface finish, chemical reactivity, improving product handling characteristics, environmental considerations, colour generation and power saving by reducing over milling. Following a successful trial, we can normally recommend scaling up the machine to produce significant increases in throughput

How versatile is the Aerosplit?

The Aerosplit machine is highly responsive to fine adjustments and out of specification material can be modified within minutes.

How do I deal with an abrasive product?

With many years of experience and product development, the Aerosplit classifier can be offered along with range of abrasion-resistant (AR) liners and coatings that are through-hardened to provide extreme wear resistance and structural durability, extend equipment service life and withstand severe impact.

Optional rubber and ceramic liners can be incorporated into the machine design as can metal alloy coatings such as Tungsten Carbide.
